June and July were especially active with a number of activities at the Memorial as well as other events where our MWM team had the opportunity to participate in and speak about the long and remarkable service of military women.

On June 12th, we welcomed First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Senator Susan Collins to our National Women Veterans Day Recognition Day Celebration at the Memorial. It was a spectacular event honoring our servicewomen and women veterans and celebrating 75 years of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act. MWM’s The Color of Freedom: Honoring the Diversity of America’s Servicewomen exhibition opened at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History in Little Rock on June 17. A highlight was meeting one of the Little Rock Nine students, Elizabeth Eckford. We share her story in this edition.

On July 4th, we celebrated at the Memorial, one of DC’s best places to celebrate Independence Day. What an evening! Be sure to check out the photos. Our “Giving in July” event with partner, Wreaths Across America, brought a number of visitors to the Memorial to honor all who serve. On July 17th, we celebrated Military Times Service Members of the Year at the annual awards dinner. We were especially proud that, this year, three women were among the honorees.

These events are just some of the highlights of the many events and work that MWM has been doing. Take a look at our Summer 2023 Newsletter to learn more.

Remember to say thanks to the servicewomen of World War I on August 18 when the 19th Amendment was ratified and again on August 26, Women’s Equality Day, when it was certified and became official. Please consider supporting our 2023 MWM Matchmaker Challenge that ends on Women’s Equality Day, a great way to double your impact and honor one of our WWII veterans.
