On October 18, 2025, we celebrated 28 years of the Military Women’s Memorial—America’s only national memorial dedicated to honoring and telling the stories of the more than 3 million women who have served our Nation since the American Revolution.
The Memorial’s dedication on October 18, 1997, was a truly historic moment. It was called the most important landmark for American women in the 20th century—the first time our Nation visibly recognized the patriotism and valor of its women citizens. That day, some 40,000 servicewomen, past and present, filled Memorial Avenue in the largest-ever gathering of military women. One attendee captured the spirit best: “I’m moved. I’m proud. I’m home.”
This year, we invited members, friend, and supporters to join us virtually for the fourth annual Patriot Leadership Award Gala. Together, across the Nation, we celebrated 28 years of bringing women’s service out of the shadows—making their contributions visible, honored, and central to America’s history. Thanks to supporters like you, hundreds of thousands women are honored at their Memorial and their stories of service are no longer buried. They are Illuminated. Celebrated. Foundational chapters in America’s history.
At this year’s Gala, we were proud to honor the ten women four-star generals and admirals receiving the Patriot Leadership Award. To honor them here, at their Memorial, is both fitting and historic. Their legacies of courage, leadership, and perseverance will live within these walls and inspire generations to come.
