25th Anniversary Celebration

A quarter century after the October 18, 1997 dedication of the Military Women’s Memorial, the nation came together once again to commemorate a milestone day for military women – the 25th Anniversary of the Military Women’s Memorial.

From October 14–16, 2022, servicewomen, past and present, and supporters of the Memorial from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. to celebrate.

Service Luncheons

Servicemembers, past and present, gathered at the 25th Anniversary Celebration kick-off luncheons at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Washington, DC. Guests had the opportunity to meet and reminisce with old friends and new over an elegant lunch and take in remarks by senior officials.

All-Service reunion

This casual evening of fun and camaraderie offered plenty of opportunities for socializing with service pals, old and new. In addition to displays and representation from various veterans groups and national organizations, the evening featured a variety of entertainment, food, and beverages.

25th Anniversary ceremony

The official 25th Anniversary program will include formal military honors, remarks by former and current military women representing each of the Services, senior Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs officials, and more. A highlight of the event will be the debut of a new anthem honoring military women–stay tuned for the name of the singer!

CANDLELIGHT HONOR WALK &
REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

The Candlelight Honor Walk and Service of Remembrance are two of the most special events of the anniversary weekend. We will come together to walk in honor of all who have served and sacrificed for our nation, remembering the many courageous trailblazing women who are no longer with us. The walk will conclude with a ceremony in remembrance of the fallen.

VIRTUAL WREATH LAYING

MWM President retired Army CW5 Phyllis Wilson will honor the sacrifices of America’s servicemembers by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on behalf of the Women In Military Service For America Memorial Foundation and the servicewomen it represents. The Wreath Laying, a historic and meaningful gesture of honor, will be accessible via live stream only.

VAUGHT CENTER DEDICATION &
OPEN HOUSE

Guests are invited to attend the dedication of the new Vaught Center, named after the Memorial’s founding president retired Air Force Brigadier General Wilma L. Vaught. Following the event, guests will be invited to explore the memorial and may have the opportunity to meet this revered icon of military women.

25th Anniversary Challenge

The 25th Anniversary 25-Day Challenge challenge is a fun way for our community of members, friends, partners, and supporters to come together as Team MWM to celebrate the Military Women’s Memorial 25th Anniversary from anywhere in the world!

This virtual race allows you to participate on your own, with friends or colleagues, your running or yoga group, paddleboard or book club, or your whole family, all the while showing your support wherever and whenever you can.

Each registration includes a challenge medal, e-bib, and e-certificate!
