This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” allowing countless lesbian, gay and bisexual servicemembers to serve openly. Join us for a special program exploring the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, the fight to repeal it and how it continues to affect those who serve.
MG (R) Tammy Smith joins us to discuss her career, how she lived her life under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the military and her advocacy to repeal the policy.
We’ll also explore how the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy continues to impact people’s lives.
This program is moderated by Jennifer Dane, Air Force veteran and president of the Modern Military Association of America.
This program is presented in partnership with the Modern Military Association of America.

When you are preparing for a career transition, you will be inundated with those who want to help. You’ll have more advice on interviews, resumes, and finances than you might desire. The Military Women’s Memorial understands how stressful this process can be so we are hosting a stress-free Career & Transition Forum. You will get real-talk from our corporate partners about how to get to your “next.”
Join top employers for a FREE in-person career transition forum for service members, military spouses, veterans, and caregivers. This event will include:
- Themed presentations by Amazon, Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, and Recruit Military
- Free Headshots by a professional photographer
- Networking period with local recruiters, executives, and mentors
- Door Prizes and more!
How is this forum different than the others? You will receive honest, genuine, and authentic mentorship. You will have the opportunity to meet recruiters, senior executives, and mentors all in one event.
This event is inclusive. It is for women and men – active duty, Reserve, Guard, veterans, military spouses, military kids, AND caregivers.
Our interactive, in-person education cart engages visitors with history and takes a deeper look at the unique journey of servicewomen. The cart has different activities, sometimes showcasing historic items from our Collection and other times creating take-home arts and crafts. Check out our Programs Calendar to see when the Activity Cart will be available at the Memorial.
More Than One Story: a collaborative performance by military women
The Military Women’s Memorial, in partnership with Community Building Art Works, will unveil a unique storytelling collaborative performance by military women. In addition, participants will share their experience going through the interactive workshop to create an space for them to share their experiences. This performance aims to inspire understanding, dialog and connection with participants, audience members and community leaders.
Over two days in May 2021, 9 military women from across the United States of America gathered virtually to weave their stories into a collaborative performance. This work is addressed to the women they came from, the women they were, the women they are becoming, and the women who will walk the trail they blazed. Join us as we unveil the final product at the Military Women’s Memorial, hear remarks from the participants at a reception at the Memorial that inspires understanding, dialog, and connection between participants, audience members, and community leaders.
The Armed Services Arts Partnership, together with the Military Women’s Memorial, is committed to providing service members, veterans, and military family members the opportunity to engage in the art of storytelling, learn together, and build camaraderie along the way.
