This Women Veterans Recognition Day also commemorates the 78th anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act—the moment women earned a permanent place in the U.S. military. But her story didn’t begin there—and it doesn’t end there.

Each generation has stood on the shoulders of those who came before—pushing further, reaching higher. Because of them, the next generation stands taller, prouder, and more inspired to serve.

Special Remarks

ADM Lisa Franchetti, USN, Ret.

Admiral Lisa Franchetti, U.S. Navy, Ret., served as the 33rd Chief of Naval Operations from 2023–2025, becoming the first woman to serve as Chief of Naval Operations and on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A 1985 graduate of Northwestern University, she commanded at every level of the Navy and deployed in every Fleet during a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades. Her service stands as a testament to the leadership, courage, and legacy of generations of military women.

Kate Andersen Brower, co-author of We The Women with Norah O’Donnell, who will join us for this meaningful occasion and lend her voice to this powerful tribute.
