Volunteers Needed
Are you a retiree looking for a meaningful way to spend your time? Are you a stay-at-home parent or spouse who’d like to meet new people? Or are you employed full-time but want to give something back? Your Memorial needs you!
Memorial Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to act as greeters and tour guides. Responsibilities involve meeting and greeting visitors and directing guests to the exhibits, theater or Register, as well as giving tours. The Memorial is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, Oct. 1-March 31; and from 8 AM to 7 PM, April 1-Sept. 30. Volunteers set their own schedules. Any time you can give is welcomed and appreciated. For more information, contact Donna Houle at 703-892-2606 or memorial@womensmemorial.org.Oral History Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to conduct oral history interviews for the Foundation. In an effort to economize until our funding situation is corrected, we have delayed rehiring an Oral History Program director since the departure of Marcie Reborchick several months ago. We were recently reminded by one of our members, retired Army LTC Kathleen VanderBoom, of how very important this program is to military women's history.LTC VanderBoom had contacted us about doing an interview with a World War II servicewoman who was a friend of hers. "I've been feeling the drumming of time passing every time I visit with her," she said. LTC VanderBoom continued, "How unfortunate that collecting oral histories currently is not an active program. We are losing so much."
We at the Foundation couldn't agree more. If you are interested in conducting oral history interviews, please contact the Public Relations Department at pr@womensmemorial.org or 800-222-2294/703-533-1155 for the core questions used by the Foundation for interviews. Interviews from all eras are important and needed, including servicewomen who have recently deployed. Audio interviews using cassette tapes or disks are preferred.
